Featured HPKCHC Blog

We have another great blog to tell you about this week!  It's written by a fellow HPKCHC member, Amy, who's known on Ravelry as PprmntMochaMama.  The blog is called Peppermint Mocha Mama and you can find it at http://peppermintmochamama.blogspot.com.  Amy is very dedicated to posting frequently on her blog and even tries to post everyday except for Saturdays!

She was kind enough to answer some questions for us and here they are ...

When did you start this blog and what motivated you to start it?
I started my blog on July 5, 2010 during the first summer both of my girls were away in Texas visiting my parents. It was a long lonely couple of months so I thought writing would help fill the time while my husband was at work.

What types of topics do you usually blog about? What types of HPKCHC related things do you blog about?
Nothing is off-limits on my blog. It’s about my life - the good, the bad, and the ugly. I talk about my family, food, books and crafts. Since HPKCHC is such a big part of my life, it pops up a lot in my blog.

What type(s) of crafting do you normally do and how long have you been doing them?
I used to be a knitter, for over 20 years, and then when Peanut graduated high school in 2011 my mother taught me how to make a simple granny square. I sat at her feet, just like when I was a kid and learning how to knit, and learned how to make squares. That whole week they were in town, I did nothing but make square after square so that I would have it down pat before she left again. I don’t think I’ve picked up my needles much since then. I am learning how to sew, which is to say that my machine and I are now on speaking terms though we aren’t friendly. As far as spinning goes, my drop spindles do nothing more than live up to their names.

Are there any new techniques or fibers that you’ve worked with recently that you found either enjoyable and/or challenging, and why?
I’m trying to figure out crochet cables. I have mastered the Phannie hat, which has a simple cable effect. My next jump is to the lattice looking ones though I may have to work my courage up just a bit more.

Which HPKCHC house(s) are you in and what year are you? How long have you been in that house? Have you ever been part of one of the other houses? If so, when and for how long?
I am a member of the noble house of Slytherin and I’m currently a 7th Year student, though I did spend my first ever term as a NQFY. I came down to the Dungeons to visit from Hufflepuff for my second term but had to fulfill a promise to a friend in Hufflepuff for two terms before returning home to Dungeons where I don’t plan on leaving any time soon.

What positions have you held and which ones do you currently hold here at HPKCHC?
I was a NQFY mentor for 4 terms but these past two terms you can find me in the classroom. I was up in the Astronomy tower last term and this term I am living the dream in the Potions classroom… though I encourage silly wand waving.

Are you working on an OWL, NEWT or a Mission this term? How is it going so far?
I am working on an OWL and a Mission. I need to get back to my OWL but my Mission is really humming along. I think I am enjoying my Mission more because it’s rather mindless where my OWL requires a color change every row at the moment. I’m 25% done and only 14 more rows for my proposed 50% mark so hopefully I will buckle down soon and get that turned in before the deadline.

What’s your favorite part about being in HPKCHC?
The people. Everyone is so wonderful. I’m inspired, encouraged, and educated every day. I just love everyone associated with our fabulous game.

What can you tell our blog readers that they may not already know about you?
Oh my goodness, I’m not sure. Let’s see… my youngest daughter is (or at least was) the youngest player ever at HPKCHC and she’s currently sorted in Gryffindor. Her name is TheOriginalHobbit and she just turned 9. She’s been playing for almost a full calender year now. Ummm, what else… oh, I’m a retired Leader for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. That was a fabulous role that I loved for many years. I’m an open book so I don’t think there is much of anything that hasn’t been shared… lol.

Look at how busy she was in May with all of these awesome projects!
