Completed OWLs Part 4

Today we're looking at the OWLs for Potions and Detention.

Potions
mio loom knit 60 large hats with at least 3 colors each. WOW! That is an amazing selection of hats, and I'm sure the recipients will love it.

TheWindWraith finished a gorgeous stranded colorwork blanket that featured sheep and a custom collie chart in the bottom right. I'm sure her collies approve, she did a great job rendering them in yarn.

PinkLemons crocheted a blanket for charity. The granny squares are so bright and the colors work together wonderfully.

PuffyGryffinclaw knit a sweater with a very colorful yoke. The blue is especially gorgeous, and the other colors compliment it well!

simplyme5252 knit a cardigan with a fair isle yoke. The colorwork turned out great, and I'm particularly impressed with how nice the zipper is incorporated.

AuroraSelene knit a pair of very colorful socks that are stranded throughout. They were even knit two at a time, I can only imagine how all those skeins were juggled.

Detention

fitzie finished up a blanket and a mitered square vest. I'm sure it's great to get these WIPs off the needles and ready to use!

frick finished up quite a number of things. Two shawls, two pairs of socks, and two skeins of yarn! They are handily visible all in one picture, but don't let it fool you. Everything finished is amazing. I've also included a glamorous shot of each shawl, because the lace deserves to be seen1

PrincessCutie tackled two WIPs, a pair of gloves and a colorwork cardigan with cute little birds on it for herself. The steeking is great, despite the fear it strikes in the hearts of many knitters.

damereading knit a bag to hold her knitting in! It even has 6 pockets knit into it, and a cute little bow embellishment. It's quite fetching looking on her arm, and it'll be handy for years.

One more post till we've wrapped up our OWL coverage. Congratulations to all who completed your projects!

Completed OWLS Part 3

Hi there! Today we'll be celebrating three more OWL categories, History of Magic, Muggle Studies, and Transfiguration.

History of Magic

adevinelife has knit 16 hats for charity depicting 4 different quidditch teams, the Appleby Arrows, Hollyhead Harpies, Puddlemore United, and the defunct Ilkley team.

GardeniaPatti spun three skeins of yarn to represent three Hogwarts professors, Remus Lupin, Dolores Umbridge, and Severus Snape.

Muggle Studies

MrsDanvers crocheted a Molly Weasley cardigan. The sleeves are especially awesome, both because of the many colors and the cool flare at the end.

KnitInferno knit a lovely green sweater and is waiting for a cold day to wear it. I can't help but hope it's not till next year, but I'm sure it will get a ton of use.

Rinabina knit not one, or two, or three, but FOUR sweaters! Two fun kidsized sweaters for two special little girls, a nice adult sweater for herself, and cardigan. I know I'm impressed.

knittingnonsense knit a long sleeved sweater for herself that has a surprise. The sleeves fold down as built in fingerless gloves!

miona knit a gorgeous swoopy cardigan for herself. Plus, I think her picture staging skills are so cool. Is that an clarinet I spy?

Transfiguration

mommyofrhys made a whole FIVE cowls, one of which has cool, sparkly beads. That's almost 2000 yards of yarn used.

LumosKP used over 2,200 yards of yarn to create 24 hats for charity. I'm surprised they all fit on a table! They're also quite colorful, I like the big bold stripes most of them feature.

JogsWithNeedles took on two cabled projects, a cowl and a cardigan. They both turned out to be a great use of more than 1,300 yards of yarn.

Next time, we'll have our final selection of OWLs, Potions and Detention.

Completed OWLs Part 2

Another batch of OWL projects today! We're looking at Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, and Herbology today, and they are a wow inducing set of projects.

Charms

scoutharps knit a lace circular shawl that took more than 1000 yards. I cannot express how impressed I am with it.

spike knit a triangular shape lace shawl that took 1,200 yards of yarn to finish. Plus it's black, always difficult to knit with but with an impressive result.

Defense Against the Dark Arts

zillalatte has finished knitting a bunch of garter stitch to end up with a Dr. Who scarf. Totally worth it for any fan, even if it's not the most interesting knit ever.

Divination

cindiknits has three projects for her OWL after a tea leaf reading, a rainbow Leftie, a pair of fingerless gloves, and a pair of felted slippers. They all turned out wonderfully!

Herbology

fluffyk knit a complicated cabled cardigan for herself with 1500 yards of a gorgeous tonal yarn.

msnicci finished knitting her largest project ever, a lacy purple cardigan for herself. It looks fantastic!

pennyia used 1220 yards of yarn to create a complexly cabled sweater for herself and threw in a hat for charity to boot! I love the cables and the honeycomb pattern, it all turned out amazing.

That's all we have for today! See you next time to look at more OWLs from Gryffindor students.

Completed OWLs Part 1

There are a lot of completed OWLs this term, and we'll be featuring as many as possible on the blog during the break month. Up first are Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Astronomy, and Care of Magical Creatures.

Ancient Runes

First up is dreamofcolors. This is her first owl, and has designed a colorwork hat chart and knit sample hats. The pattern has even been published on Ravelry!

WIPitis has also finished an Ancient Runes OWL. This colorwork cowl took 1300 yards of yarn and had an impressive 204 stitches to kitchener together at the end. The results are pretty darn impressive.

Arithmancy

heather219 has been working on oodles of blanket squares for her OWL, completing 24 this term. On the left is all of them, the right are closeups to show just how gorgeous they are.

jwill knit and crocheted 16 hats for the charity NEST Maine. I think the recipients will be quite happy with them!

nesterknitter knit these gorgeous stranded colorwork fingerless mittens. They look like a perfect fit.

trametes1971 knit 6 pairs of socks for charity! An amazing feat for sure, plus in the process used 6 different heels and several different techniques including lace, stranded knitting, slip stitches, and more.

I am also in this group. I, watrpriestess, knit 25 hats from a variety of patterns for charity.

Astronomy

intallcotton is the only Gryffindor who has turned in an Astronomy OWL this term, and it is quite an impressive one. A sparkling Celestarium depicting the night sky!

Care of Magical Creatures

christinahwest completed her OWL by making 16 baby hats for donation to a local woman's shelter. I especially love the rainbow hats.

maggievanderstok spun and dyed 7 skeins of yarn to represent a welsh green dragon, thestral, garden gnome, unicorn, screech owl, salamander, and augury. This group shot represents a selection of yarns I think anyone would be ecstatic to have made.

teknosugar hatched a dragon egg and came up with a lovely cardigan for her mom. I can definitely see the scale shapes, and I'm sure her mom will love it.

I'm really impressed with all the OWLs covered today, and will be back tomorrow with another group. Keep an eye out for your fellow Gryffindor's amazing projects!
